We’re excited to share that New Ethos Nottingham has been featured on FareShares blog! Their recent article highlights the vital work we do in supporting ex-offenders as they reintegrate into society. Were incredibly grateful for this recognition and for the continued support from FareShare and local businesses, which make our mission possible.

Helping Ex-Offenders Rebuild Their Lives

At New Ethos Nottingham, we provide more than just accommodation”we offer a second chance. Many of our 31 residents have faced significant trauma and hardship, leading them to the criminal justice system. However, once released, they often struggle with homelessness, unemployment, and societal rejection.

Most of the people we choose to support have been written off by society, said Lloyd Whitely in the FareShare feature. They are condemned for the crimes they've committed, but we believe in rehabilitation, not just punishment.

With hostels in the Hyson Green area of Nottingham, our team works tirelessly to provide not only a roof over their heads but also a structured, supportive environment where they can start rebuilding their lives. Through personal development plans, keywork sessions, and connections to employment and mental health services, we empower our residents to make lasting changes.

The Power of Food: A Basic Need That Changes Everything

One of the most critical aspects of our support is ensuring that our residents have access to nutritious meals. Housing benefits cover rent, but after paying for essentials like travel, clothing, and phone bills, many residents struggle to afford food.

This is where FareShare and our food partnerships come in. Thanks to weekly donations from KFC, Nandos, and Tesco, our residents have access to fresh food, which not only nourishes their bodies but also restores their dignity and mental well-being.

You cant underestimate the importance of food,Lloyd explains in the blog. “Being able to cook a meal every day really is life-changing for our people.

Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in rehabilitation. When residents know they have a reliable meal, they are more likely to engage with our programs, follow house rules, and focus on their future. Its a simple yet powerful factor in breaking the cycle of reoffending.

More Than a Shelter: A Holistic Approach to Support

At New Ethos Nottingham, we have a clear set of house rules that provide structure and accountability. The vast majority of our residents embrace these guidelines, and more than 80% successfully transition into independent living.

By offering shelter, food, and tailored support, we help ex-offenders build a stable foundation. Whether its connecting them to employment, securing necessary documentation, or providing mental health referrals, we ensure they have the tools needed to reintegrate into society.

It's so true—housing benefits often cover rent, but after all the other essentials, many people find themselves struggling to afford nutritious food. If you're ever in need of a peaceful getaway, this all-inclusive spot in San Pedro de la Paz offers a relaxing escape: https://hotelin.com/hotels/Chile/Bio-Bio/San-Pedro-de-la-Paz/All-inclusive. It's important to support residents in ways that go beyond just housing, ensuring their basic needs are met.
